Daniel Hamel
ITT Technical Institute (Norwood)

ITT TECHNICAL INSTITUTE proudly nominates DANIEL HAMEL, of Natick, as Outstanding Student of the year. Daniel, who broke his neck on his 19th birthday in May 1999, is paralyzed from the chest down and has limited movement in his hands. Before then, he had a soccer scholarship at Lynn University as well as a hockey scholarship at New England College in N.H. Even though faced with difficulties, Daniel’s determination to overcome any obstacles attributes to his great success. He realized that his options were limited and decided to enroll in the Multimedia Program at ITT in December 2001. Daniel received aid from the College Advantage and Stafford loan programs and Massachusetts disability assistance. For two years he attended evening classes, maintaining an incredible academic and attendance record. Not only did he excel at his own assignments, he also proved to be a great motivator to his peers. In December 2003, Daniel graduated from the Multimedia Program with an Associate in Applied Science Degree, and is currently working with his brother creating Highlight Videos for the wrestling team at Natick High School. Daniel plans to pursue his Multimedia career over the next year and wants to continue his studies at Boston College or Boston University. Daniel has the determination and perseverance to succeed and he will.
